Video Adverts

Note: This is just a rant.

I don’t know why but I’m starting to dislike video advertisements showing up on top of content of a page. I also don’t like that they take up bandwidth of your internet connection. Granted business need to make money by promoting their goods and services.

I’ve found that video ads intrusive as of late. Though a number of things have annoyed me to some extent, but that’s another post for another time.

Finally moved hosts

Well I’ve finally moved hosting company’s for this site. I went from Yahoo! Web Hosting to WestHost. Its taken me at least 3 to 5 1/2 years to actually make the move. Partly trying to find a host that I could transition to and not knowing how to make such moves.

I’ve used Yahoo for so long – at first with business email then a couple of years later web hosting. I did that domain/web hosting packing together which I learned and heard over the years wasn’t a very good idea in any way. So now I have this domain and bhchinooks.com at independent domain register and have hosting with WestHost.

One thing that I’ve noticed since the move is that this site is loading faster than before while on Yahoo servers. While I had this site on Yahoo web hosting I’ve noticed that there were many “quirks” that developed which is hard to explain. Though the site seemed stable majority of the time – it was the odd weekend where this blog went “weird.” The last time this blog went “weird” on the June 4th weekend, so it was the “straw” that broke to proverbial camels back. Which gave me a “kick” on the backside to make the move.

Though there is other reason for the move – is that I’ve “out grown” what Yahoo offered on its web hosting site.

If I was running a site with no blog(s) or php scripts I might have stayed with Yahoo.

I looked around at other hosting companies but at the time when I signed up I was looking to pay for a couple of years at a time. Partly to “save some money” each year. At the moment I’m exploring my more options as for my current host goes. There will be an expanded explanation at a later time with the last statement – if you could understand what I just said.

doing some site updates

For those who are interested, I’ve done some minor updates to my main site. Its all of those little things that I’ve missed when I did a last update to my site which was some time ago. I also did a few things to make the links more highlighted – though that may not be the right word to use. Anyway, my site should get an updated look to it soon, which I’m starting to plan out.

As for this blog, I’ve changed the theme to something more “colorful” than to what I had before on this blog. So, if you do come by this blog leave a note in the comments if you like the new theme or not.

Speaking of themes, when I get my system the way I would like, I’m going to try and sit down and develop my theme for this blog and the rest of my site. Though it would be awhile before I would actually sit down and develop one.

Anyway, there’s probably going to be some more miner updates to my site over the this coming summer. However its going to be a hit or miss type thing, since I would be moving to a different city this summer – I might said where in another post. In other words I’m going to be busier than normal this summer.

Bye for now….

using Diigo vs del.icio.us

I’ve recently came across Diigo by the way of a post over at Borderland. It seems an interesting site, enough to try it, even though I really don’t like the clutter of the site. Another problem that I have a problem with is with the after effects of the import of my del.icio.us bookmarks, though I was expecting a few tags and links to get lost during the import into Diigo.

One feature that I like about Diigo is that I could actually have links posted to my blogs, as with del.icio.us, nothing gets posted to any of my blogs – no matter how I try to get things work. I guess I could live with that for a while longer.

Though, I’m going to see how Diigo works out during the mean time. Del.icio.us is still my default online bookmarking site.

Here is my Diigo page and here is my del.icio.us page. Though my del.icio.us account is more current than what I have at Diigo.

Bored with using the internet or visiting websites

Don’t know why but recently I just want to write of using the web and the internet in general. What I mean is that the internet really no longer holds its appeal to me, or it doesn’t feel like “new.” Granted all I do now is to check email, use bloglines, Google Reader, and visit a couple other websites – including my own site.

Though for the last 2 1/2 to 3 years or so I’ve been using Bloglines which has been great to organize and centralize the things that I like to read the most. Such as entertainment news or follow tech sites. Although I have been using a new computer for the last year – which I use mainly for school work, and in part to work on my website which I haven’t updated that much recently which I should do soon.

I’m getting off track – sort of. It just seems like that I don’t want to have much to do with the web anymore – well not as much as I did like about 10 years ago when I started using the web and the internet.

One thing that I’ve been doing less and less is blogging and I think the problems is that what I want to say and it doesn’t come out right or just unable to put things into words.

bye for now…

Slacker

I discovered a new internet based radio site named Slacker that works on a Macintosh system well through – at least – Firefox 2. Granted its in beta, but its not like Yahoo! Music that doesn’t support Mac in regards to its Radio part of its site. The music video’s on Yahoo Music do work in Firefox on the Macintosh system which is nice.

Anyway, now its nice to have some place to listen to the radio on the internet besides ITunes. Here is the link to the story on how found Slacker.com.

Now if Yahoo! would add or improve support for the Macintosh platform on it music site, which I doubt that its going happen anytime soon. Well sort of Apple buying a larger company, but then again its wishful thinking.

web browsing and such

It seems that over the years that I’ve been browsing the web in some fashion or another, I tend to notice recently that the site’s that I’ve visited a lot have been growing smaller and smaller as the years go by. For example, several years I would visit at least 8 to 12 just about every day, but now it just seems that I’m just visiting no more than 6 to 8 sites at most. After about 2 to 3 hours of woundering around on the web I just want to shut of the computer and do something else, like reading a book.

Another thing that I’ve noticed is that that some site’s that I’ve visited in the first several years have either been shut down or merged with another site, and in some cases not even updated for the longest time.

There were really good site’s that I’ve found over the years but then thing’s do change. People’s interest in doing site’s or whatever about maintaining sites just ended up as a chore than anything else. I know it was making websites and such in the begining, but now I just don’t have the time nor the interest in having a constant update to my site. What I mean is that I want to add on, and do more stuff with my site but currently I’m using a windows pc, which in turn I get a creative block – basically I can’t be creative on a windows pc no matter where I am. If I was using an Apple Macintosh computer would be another thing altogether.

But hopefully thing’s would change this fall after I might get a new Mac computer, but at this point I don’t know if I would. If I did I would be adding stuf to my site. Like having a online bookmark’s, something similar to del.icio.us – which is a good service by the way. I might even intergate this blog and my site better than just a link.

I would just see how thing’s go for the rest of the summer.
